@home THAI
A couple weeks ago we spent a few days in Ayr which was super lovely to get out the city and hit the beautiful west coast of Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

We asked for recommendations and many people suggested @athomethaigrill so we hit here as soon as we arrived! It didn’t disappoint. 😋

Thai is one of my favourites so I was very excited to try it. The venue is very simply furnished. A huge glass window let’s in a lot of daylight making the room very bright. I think some drapes, candlelights 🕯& cornering off the tables would be nice for creating more intimacy between guests as you do feel you can hear other peoples conversations & they can hear yours. It does however have some pleasant decor. 🖼

We opted for Chicken Satay & Pork Belly for Starters. These were well presented and tasted very nice.

The winning dish was my Lamb Shank Mamasan Curry! This is a must try! The sauce was perfection with nutmeg, cinnamon and sweet spices! Very authentic! Slow cooked lamb was tender and non fatty. The potatoes and sautéed veg made the perfect addition.

My partner had the 8oz weeping tiger sirloin 🥩 This is our go to dish at any Thai venue. We asked for medium rare and it was slightly more medium but it tasted very nice. I didn’t try it however but that Lamb Curry is a total hit for me!

We had great service, maybe even a little over attentive! Very passionate staff! Warm and inviting! This venue is worth checking out if visiting the sea side town of Ayr! 🌊

Mamasan Bar & Brasserie
A "mama-san", or "mamasan" is usually a woman in a position of authority, especially one in charge of a geisha house, bar or nightclub in East Asia.

We were ecstatic to see another new business opening with Thai/Asian food being one of our fave foods we had to prioritise this new venue.

Previously “Cau” which I believe was Brazilian tapas I remember visiting a couple times. It was nice, modern inside but when re-entering its simply outstanding what the new owners have done with this place. The most ginormous bar you will ever see with every spirit known to man, quirky modern paintings and greenery floating from the roof you could feel you’re sitting in a flashy venue in Manhattan. It’s plush!

The service was super, warm & friendly! Great knowledge on the dishes, a girl who has just moved up from England, she’s excellent 👍🏻

Let’s talk the main attraction though - the grub! Starters were outstanding! I had a Thai Fried Chicken. It was incredible, I want this again. Crunchy & cooked in a wasabi, chilli, sesame sauce. They have nailed this dish! I had the cheek to order a second starter so had the Prawn & Chicken Tacos these were light & well balanced! OH had the Crab Fish Cakes which he said were over salted, coming from the guy who throws too much salt over everything 🤣 so I did try one and can confirm for our taste they were a bit too salty. Certainly not an awful dish though just less salt required.

For our mains I had the Thai Green Monkfish & Prawn Curry. I was blown away by the presentation. The monkish was cooked just right! 😋 I did feel the sauce was very watery however, not sticking to the fish & the flavours needed heightened. It was pleasant though. The Mushroom & Bone Marrow Rice was a perfect addition to this dish!
My other half had the Noodle Salad and Seabass in Banana Leaf which he enjoyed very much.
I opted for a wonderfully vibrant gin cocktail. Bright purple with passion fruit and flowers it was fresh and breezy!

The bill came to £104, its luxury and we can’t wait to return again soon to try more! @mamasanglasgow

The Brunch Club
One thing that can be taken from this crazy time is, it's fair to say we have all ventured out a little further, taking longer walks, cycling & jogging has taken off majorly. We have rented the @nextbikeuk bikes quite a few times and ventured off to the west end. Arriving in Finnieston - starving. We stumble across @the.brunch.club.gla

Brunch is always a good idea, this venue offers boozy 🍸brunches when they are open which is something other brunch venues do not offer in the city. 💁🏻‍♂️I opted for the Smashed Avocado on Sourdough Toast, I added on Sausage & Poached Eggs. I loved the sausages they had a nice spice mixed through. This dish was ok but the avocado was mushy & had made the Sourdough a bit soggy. It was pleasant enough.

Fast forward two weeks and we order a home delivery. This time I ordered the Halloumi Fries - Just wow! I’ve had many a loaded fries on a Sun but this is one of the nicest I’ve ever had. If you love Halloumi cheese it’s a must! The other dish I had was the Waffles, Chicken & Maple Syrup. The Waffle was plain & I think a sugar/cinnamon coating would bring this to life a bit more . It was a huge serving! The chicken was decent & I did go back to it later, so I did enjoy it.

The Brunch Club is definitely worth checking out, especially when they open back up to serve cocktails with their food as nobody else does this that we know of! The front of house staff are also a very pleasant & trendy bunch!

Osteria Glasgow
Takeaway Review

“Osteria” an Italian restaurant, typically a simple or inexpensive one. We had the delight of ordering this last week. 🇮🇹

“Funghi Fritti” mushrooms 🍄 coated in crispy golden breadcrumbs stuffed with cheese, served with garlic mayo. Not going to lie when I opened the box I thought the presentation wasn’t great. Once I took a bite however I was totally sold. This was crispy and the mushroom was so juicy & not dried out at all & with the added cheese I would definitely order again. I think it would be better presented in a box for takeaway with some rocket and lemon slices.

“Spaghetti Frutti Di Mare” 🍝 served with a mix of fresh Scottish fish & seafood in a white wine sauce! 🐟 I totally loved this it was so creamy, loved the prawns and mussels (although I did leave aside the Calamari as I just can’t bring myself to like that, too rubbery 😐)

“Pollo Milanese” is a traditional breaded chicken breast served on classic Penne Arrabbiata. We had this in Milan and it was very similar, very authentic! 👍🏻

“Garlic Focaccia” well it’s a simple Italian bread, well seasoned & it didn’t look amazing but it did taste great!

Overall @osteriaglasgow does what it says on the tin! A few presentation issues, but its difficult to translate that wow factor with a home delivery. That small issue aside it tasted lovely and we will definitely be popping in soon for a dine in experience!
