Part 1

Throwback to early this year & a video appears online, @sixbynico owner & well renowned chef Nico Simeone is in his office with his staff, presenting & handing over his star chef Modou, with a whole business. His 111 branch is being changed from Nico to Modou. It is documented that Modou came to this country with just a small amount of cash to his name & had lived rough for sometime & managed to totally turn his life around. So for us, this was a must visit! This isn’t just a restaurant. This is a story of passion, friendship, self belief, hard work & talent. 💕

The Food 🕵️‍♂️ (Mr Diners Menu)

1 BLACK TRUFFLE

Presented to the most excellent standard. I could have eaten about 5 of these. They have to be savoured however. This was the epitome of fine dining & a real show opener

2 SMOKED HAM HOUGH

Just wow - check out the video & the amazing smoking presentation. This was not all style over substance however. This was actually my favourite dish out of the 6 dishes I tried. The Ham meat was smooth & I’ve never had such a delicate piece of fat alongside. It actually made fat elegant? How did they do that? Perfection!

3 DUCK

This dish was also really nice. I can’t cast my mind back too much to the flavours (I’ll blame the wine) but i remember i enjoyed it.

4 LAMB BELLY

So this was my least favourite but it was still very nice. The textures didn’t flow as well as the other options but still to a high standard.

5 CHEESE (SUPP)

We all opted for this and it was actually one of the best dishes. The cheese was an unusual Camembert which can be purchased from a store on Great Western Rd so I will need to enquire as it was one of the best. The piece of cake was also so nice with the cheese 🧀

6 LEMON

I loved this dessert palate cleanser. The basil ice cream was heavenly with the citrus contrast. Herby & earthy with that zest it was an uplifting way to finish a wonderful experience

Part 2 - Miss Diner 🙋‍♀️

Two words that spring to my mind when thinking about my experience at Modou would be indulgent & exquisite! What a treat, the quality of the food & the service is impeccable 🤩 Our waiter was a lovely guy called Nico! He was a fountain of knowledge & so helpful talking us through each course (and that all important matching wine flight 😉🍷)

1st - Black Truffle (pictured in Mr Diner's review) Yeah we had the same to start 😂 If you are a fan of Black Truffle then you will love this flavoursome number!

2nd - Loch Etive Sea Trout (1st picture) WOW. That charred flavour though 🤤 the fish was extremely smooth & that Quail's Egg was a match made in heaven!

3rd - Pink Fir Apple Potato This was an interesting mix of flavours with the potato cooked a few different ways 😉 with a pea emulsion, bloody good I'll tell ye!

4th - Shetland Cod I loved this dish, the mix of chorizo & mussels really brought out the flavours in the fish! Delish 😍

Cheese Supp - I love cheese so that got devoured 😂🧀

5th - Golden Peach I normally love a chocolate dessert but this seriously changed my mind 😍 the flavours of juicy peach & ginger were incredible! Sweet & zingy 🤤

This was just magic.. What a talented chef we have gained here in Glasgow, fantastic 👏 @111bymodou

Baad Glasgow, The Calton Tap Room
We had a rather 'baad' experience last night @baadglasgow @the_calton_taproom 😌 we were filled with high hopes for this beautiful venue & we were sadly disappointed. We were greeted by a lovely guy, who was cheery & talked us through track & trace etc.. Escorted us to our seats & said someone would be over to take our order.

👉 We ordered our drinks. Also ordered water for the table & we didn't receive the water (had to ask again)

👉 A lengthy wait to order our food.. We made it clear that we were in for food & drinks.. All the staff were standing at the bar not paying attention & we eventually had to wave someone over (not good)

👉 The server couldn't explain any of the food to us when we asked. Had to go away to consult someone & come back. Miss Diner ordered Pork Belly & they didn't know they had ran out. A lot of miscommunication & the service wasn't consistent at all. Ordered another Sauvignon Blanc & was met with a red wine 🤷‍♀️

Our food -

Thai Lamb Larb - A rather small dish, lacked flavour & poor presentation.

Buttermilk Fried Chicken Wings - tasted like vinegar, we couldn't taste even a hint of the blue cheese sauce.

Butter Sauce Fries - Bland cheese sauce with pale skinny fries.

Katsu Sauce Fries - Pale skinny fries, sauce was ok.

Bratwurst - Tasted like a hotdog from a jar, the bun was half toasted. Pulled pork was ok, but the whole thing lacked proper flavour.

Scottish Ribeye Steak - Looked like a steak you would cook at home, not restaurant quality.

Macaroni - Tasted ok, nothing to write home about.

It was eat out to help out but the value is not good at all for the quality of food & service we received. If it was full price during normal times, we would have been livid. We ended up with two bills displaying two different figures 🤷‍♀️ We want to provide honest feedback as there is no point in sugar coating it. The setting is beautiful, great atmosphere & the football was playing. Vast improvements needed 💯 not sure we'd be rushing back.

Barca Tapas and Cava Bar
Last weekend was a rather wild one.. 🤣 So it was a hair of the dog situ on the Sunday 🙈 We decided to go to @barcatapas for a few light bites & some Sangria 🍷💃

Barca is a traditional Tapas & Cava Bar located in the beautiful Princes Square. To eat we had -

🍴Halloumi a La Parrilla - Grilled Halloumi marinated in cumin & lemon with smoky chilli jam

🍴Tortilla Del Dia - Spanish style omelette made with layers of sliced potato, egg & onion

🍴Tortas De Camaron - Prawn fritters served with aioli

🍴Alitas De Pollo - Chicken wings cooked in honey & chilli

🍴Croquetas De Jamon Y Queso - Crisp croquettes stuffed with serrano ham & manchego cheese, served with a smoky cheese dip

We also had a big jug of Barca Sangria which they make themselves, lovely & fruity 🍓

We enjoyed our food here, tasted fresh & was just the ticket to line our stomachs for a Sunday Funday 🎉😜 We'd say for what you get, the value isn't all that great. I'm sure if you visit Mon-Wed it will be cheaper with the Eat out to Help out scheme 😁

The Amsterdam aka The Dam
I had the most lovely burger & chips @thedamglasgow which was The Brunswick Hotel Bar previously, where I used to go for drinks. I was really impressed with the Dutch makeover and hanging bicycles! The seats and tables are quite hard, not the comfiest but I love the decor and funky friendly vibe from the staff. 🥰

Im not overly obsessive when it comes to burgers and don’t like eating them too often but after some clothes shopping I had built up a decent appetite for it! 🍔

I opted for the Dam Classic & Chilli Chips. For me, I loved this burger. It wasn’t over the top, the beef was nice and succulent with a lovely filling and a bouncy bap! It’s great to go somewhere for a burger that’s not a total mission to get your mouth around 🙊😝

We will most definitely be back to try more options & enjoy the bar in the evenings!

What a great we time we had in Ayr! We stopped in last night at the @tbar_ayr for cocktails & this morning for breakfast at @thetreehouse_ayr before the 🚂 back to Glasgow!

This is a @buzzworkslife creation so for those that don’t know, they own a collection of restaurants out Ayrshire/Renfrewshire way, all with their own unique twist. Many of you will be familiar with Elliots which was rebranded as Vics On The Vine in Prestwick & @thecoachhouse__bow in Bridge of Weir.
What is so great about TreeHouse is the greenery and you get a feeling similar to The Ivy. It feels luxury as soon as you walk in. They are very popular and high in demand.

We had lovely cocktails last night, a Rhubarb Concoction & Mojito! 🍸This morning we both ordered the Full Breakfast which was presented wonderfully. The poached eggs were cooked with a lemon after taste which was a unique twist! The Haggis was brought to life with a peppery after taste! Sausage and Bacon were crispy & no grease on the plate at all! That’s how It is done! 👍🏻 It’s been amazing to see just how amazing the governements Eat Out To Help scheme brings down the cost. Amazed at the savings! The prices even at full I would say are relative to what your getting here but with this incentive you feel you are leaving getting a total bargain!

Service was great with big smiles! We can’t recommend Ayr enough they have some really lovely venues, Tree house is a must!
