Miss Diner's Review ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™€๏ธ

My friend & I were having a wee jaunt around the Westend & decided on this quirky lil' venue. I had previously been a year ago for their boozy brunch deal ๐Ÿฅ‚๐Ÿณ which I enjoyed, so I had to try out their main menu!

The food & drinks were lovely ๐Ÿ˜‹ the highlights for me were the Korean Fried Chicken & Beef Massaman Curry ๐Ÿ˜ both full of flavour & tender. Oh & the Loaded Fries.. Katsu sauce & my genius idea of adding cheese ๐Ÿคค๐Ÿคค heaven! My friend is vegetarian & thought there was a great selection of veggie options on the menu which is always good๐Ÿ‘Œ

Embargo is so pretty inside, it's got that famous 'dae it for the gram' type vibe ๐Ÿ“ธโœŒ๏ธ๐Ÿ’โ€โ™€๏ธ the beautiful angel wings painted on the outside of the building has got the attention of many for that all important photo opportunity!

Oh & ladies.. There is a ring light in the toilet ๐Ÿ“ธ get that wee selfie in before you pay the bill ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‚

๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ I had a wonderful day on Friday venturing off to the Southside, I had not been in ages! My trip started off at Cafe Strange Brew. Miss Diner has previously been & loved it. I have visited their sister venue @mesa_glasgow in Dennistoun so knew to expect good things. ๐Ÿค—

The menu is just Brunch Heaven! ๐Ÿฅž Itโ€™s so hard to pick, so I had a we look on their Instagram page and decided on the Daily Special. An โ€œAutumnalโ€ ๐Ÿ‚ dish of Sweet Potato Waffles ๐Ÿง‡, Wild Mushroom ๐Ÿ„, Blue Cheese ๐Ÿง€, Fried Egg & Balsamic Walnuts!

This was incredible as I ๐Ÿ’“ mushrooms! It was a really warming dish with a great balance of flavours. The Balsamic Walnuts were really sweet which complimented the overall savoury tone of the dish. The use of sweet potato for the waffle base was really unique & not dry which I find waffles can be in many other places. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

The service was very conversational & jokey which I just love. It feels like all the staff have been picked for their great personalities & they all seem to bounce off each other when I go to pay. ๐Ÿคฉ

I thought the decor inside was great & loved their merch store! I sat outside for my meal which was nice while the sun โ˜€๏ธ was out, watching the world go by.

This venue is VERY popular so the only thing I would say is expect to wait for 10-15 mins as there is always a que to get sat down. I canโ€™t wait to pop back soon with Miss Diner for a we day sesh in the Southside ๐Ÿค˜๐Ÿป

Have you heard about the โ€œSupper Clubโ€ at the @milk_cafeglasgow Well, prepare to be amazed! I specifically visited the Southside to try this venue the other day as this place is doing a few things which just sing ๐ŸŽถ to me!

1. Supporting Refugee Women by employing them ๐Ÿ’•
2. Doing a different โ€œWorld ๐ŸŒ Foodโ€ Theme every week. Bringing cuisines which have NEVER been explored before in Glasgow &
3. Donating ยฃ1 for every meal going towards charity.

The cafe is super cute with amazing artwork ๐Ÿ–ผ, โ€œgirl powerโ€ murals @ hanging plant baskets ๐ŸŒฑ

I chose to go this week as I was so intrigued to try the โ€œSyrianโ€ menu. It has been well documented that Syria ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡พ has had a terrible time and I was so interested to learn about the people, the culture and what traditional recipes they would make.

Starter - Pickled Turnip & Salad ๐Ÿฅ—

I am all for everything being pickled. These were very tasty ๐Ÿ˜‹

Mains - Lamb Meatballs with Cherry ๐Ÿ’ & Rice

What a showstopper of a meal! This recipe is very traditional to Syria and was recently shown on Masterchef. Such a quirky ingredient to use with meatballs the fruitiness was just ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป
I will definitely be trying to recreate this myself!

Dessert ๐Ÿฎ

Rice Pudding with Pistachio & Rose. This was pleasant, very fragrant. Just a couple of ingredients bring the rice pudding to life!

All of this is ยฃ12.50 p.p which I find to be incredibly good value and love the fact that ยฃ1 goes to charity! Go give @milk_cafeglasgow a follow and support this amazing cause & concept!

C'est Magnifique ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท

We choose Atlantic for what we thought would be our last โ€œEat Out To Help Outโ€ in August and it didnโ€™t disappoint.

This venue and its sister The Anchor Line situated directly above is a homage to the Atlantic Restaurant of 1938. The Anchor line shipping company ๐Ÿšข were known for luxury travel from Scotland to exotic destinations, with the nouvelle cuisine of France served onboard.

For Starters I had the French Onion Soup which I hadnโ€™t had in ages. Just Wow! It was very hot, cooked right through but it was super delicious. ๐Ÿ˜‹ A real Winter Warmer so maybe best suited for that time of year but I would definitely have this again, that cheese and crouton were unreal.

For my main I opted for the LA POITRINE DE PORC FARCIE - Smoked honey glazed pork belly, black pudding with date, rosemary & thyme stuffing, creamy mash, smoked pancetta, Toulouse sausage & bean cassoulet, rich onion gravy. The pork was so tender, cooked lovely and I really enjoyed it. The balance of flavours were gorgeous. The only thing I would say is that itโ€™s quite a heavy menu,so definitely suitable for the winter months for a bit of stodge. I would want to arrive very hungry for next time.

Service I found was very polite and efficient, perhaps a little over attentive. The setting I just loved, the lighting and seatings were very cosy and it felt luxurious and intimate. Leaving with ยฃ20 off the bill it came to ยฃ72 which I thought was really good value. Even at full price i would say itโ€™s inline with what your getting. We would definitely return when we want to eat something that will warm the soul. @atlanticbrasserie

The question we have been asking ourselves since visiting Cafe Gandolfi is.. WHY THE HELL HAVE WE NEVER BEEN HERE BEFORE?! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿ˜‚ We had the most attentive & friendly waitress, she happily answered any questions we had about the menu. The decor has a rather antique feel to it, we think it would be a perfect place to go on a cold, frosty night for a warming meal & a glass of vino ๐Ÿด๐Ÿท

Easily one of the best dishes I have ever eaten ๐Ÿคค The flavours were insane! Please make this a permanent dish ๐Ÿ™ A must try!

Main - Peat Smoked Haddock, Crushed Potatoes, Mustard Cream, Poached Egg.

Really enjoyed this dish, the fish was so fresh! The poached egg worked really well with the fish ๐Ÿ˜ The potatoes were lacking slightly in seasoning for me.

Isle of Barra Scallops, Chestnut Veloute, Smoked Bacon, Apple & Maple Syrup.

Scallops were perfectly cooked, full of flavour. Lovely smokey taste from the bacon & a slight sweetness from maple syrup ๐Ÿ‘Œ

Main - Pulled Ox Cheek, Charred Greens, Shallot Ash, Burnt Onion Emulsion.

We both had a taste of this as we had never tried ox cheek before.. YUM. So tender! Presented beautifully, such a tasty & warming dish ๐Ÿ˜ the sourdough bread was a bit too crispy, quite difficult to bite into.

Miss Diner had to have a dessert ๐Ÿ˜› Warm Caramel Shortcake with Isle of Arran Ice cream. HOLY HELL... AMAZING. Like seriously, the actual dream ๐Ÿคค making highly inappropriate noises with every mouthful ๐Ÿ˜›๐Ÿ˜‚ that's when you know that its hit the spot!
