Bread Meats Bread, The Fort
Ahhhh the Burger 🍔 . The nations favourite. You only have to look on the High St to see that burger venues are now as commonplace as coffee shops. Five Guys, Handmade Burger, Gourmet Burger and today’s review, Bread Meats Bread.
There has been a lot of hype especially amongst food bloggers in regards to this chain and I am just getting round to trying it to see what the fuss is all about. While doing a bit of shopping up at The Fort we decide it’s one of the better looking “chains” and decide to give it a whirl.
When entering we are greeted with a warm welcome and shown to our seats the furniture and feeling isn’t far off a Nando’s.
I personally opt for a Californian Burger which sounds delish. A beef burger with sweet potatoes and bacon covered in maple syrup & side of Halloumi Fries. My friend opts for a Gluten Free Salad & it’s great that the venue do most of their burgers in Gluten Free Buns also. My other friend chose a Spicy Chicken Burger.
I found the burger to be tasty, the sweet potato fries 🍟 and bacon with maple syrup were the saving grace. The beef quality was average for myself and the bun while nice didn’t blow me away. I was expecting bigger and more brioche, more of a sweeter and crispier bun.
The Halloumi Fries were rather chunky & a little bland tasting. Smaller with more crunch would be better. My friends enjoyed their choices. The salad 🥗 was fresh and the spicy chicken 🐓 burger with coleslaw was satisfying.
As the official Mystery Diner though I get the casting vote 🙋🏻‍♂️While I scoffed the lot, I have had better burgers! The two let downs were the bun and beef quality. I feel I could create better at home!
That being said the price and service were very much in line for what you were paying for. I would return to try a different option as I might get on better with the Chicken option. Better than Five Guys although that’s not saying much. The food was slightly over rated but a pleasant experience all the same. @breadmeatsbread #burger #reviews #instadaily #instafood #foodporn #glasgowfood #scotland #thefort #critics #mystery #diners #foodvlogger

Last night was movie night so we went to Cineworld to see “The Gentlemen” at the top of Buchanan St (was hilarious 🤣 go see it) it had been a while since we had been up to this one as we have been enjoying The Everyman & Odeon Luxe at The Quay.
A previous haunt of ours was a Thai restaurant called “Lemongrass” which was across from the cinema which was very authentic & a great place to go for a romantic meal & a few drinks before the movies. This had closed down a fair while ago much to our dismay & we looked over the road to see the space was now a brand new Chinese. We were starving so wanted to try it out.
It’s very bright and colourful from the outside which is eye catching, once inside we are quickly sat down and provided with a Pre Theatre Menu which is only £10.88 (random price 🤣) as well as A La Carte. As it’s January we decide the Pre Theatre is the best option. For Starters I choose the Salt Chilli Chicken Wings which were nice and crunchy but seemed a little pink on the inside down at the bone. My main was not an exciting choice but I simply love Chicken Fried Rice 🍛 it tasted fine but for me it wasn’t a good quality chicken like those cube/strip pieces of chicken you get which almost taste a little processed. It wasn’t dry though and tasted ok, I’ve had a lot better and I’ve had a lot worse, it was average.
My partner had the Chicken Noodle Soup and the Beef Satay Fried Rice. He said his was all pleasant.
For me I can’t help but compare to what it was before which isn’t as special. It’s definitely not as cosy and intimate. The service was friendly but not personal. The food is average but great value for money. I also think the location is good for the cinema so would probably pop back for a bite to eat and try something maybe on the A La Carte.
Give this a try if you fancy a lil' taste of China 🇨🇳 before the movies, just don’t expect to be blown away.

100% Gluten Free, South Indian Cuisine is what we have on offer at this upper level Candleriggs restaurant.
Going out for a bite to eat last night with my friend, who recommended this place as she is Gluten Intolerant (Celiac).
It was quite busy which I thought was impressive for somewhere I hadn’t really heard of and even more customers arrive when we are sat down, wishing a big Happy New Year to the waiters which is a always a good sign. This is returning loyal customers and I can't wait to try the food to learn why.
South Indian isn’t something I had really tried before so was looking forward to it. We opt from a Pre -Theatre Menu which is £14.95 for 2 courses, so great value!
For starters we both have the same, Batata Bonda, soft battered dumpling with spiced potatoes. This is based on a recipe from a 12th century Manuscript. (We love a bit of history 🤓) These tasted great along with a selection of gluten free poppadoms and sauces.
On to the mains! I choose the Dosa, Indigenous to South India this traditional dish can be traced back 2,000 years 😍 they are crepes made from a batter of rice and lentil which are served with a variety of fillings. I choose the lamb 🤣 sorry guys not doing Veganuary 🤫 (Doing dry January though, will keep you's updated 😂). This is accompanied by curry leaves, peas and spices.
This crepe was longer than my arm 😂 I took a bite and it's a bit different, I can taste it’s gluten free but it’s a really tasty alternative. It's still sweet and the lamb was delish😋 I do like it slightly more on the tender side though. With vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options available, this restaurant appeals to a wide audience. Overall, I was very impressed and I shall be back to try other dishes! @dakhinglasgow

Sloans
We have been holding this review back for a while as we haven’t had to criticise anywhere since September. However, at Sloans we had a disappointing experience. I have been a couple of times to Glasgow’s oldest Bar & Restaurant just for drinks and always thought it had a cosy Glasgow pub feel, with slightly overpriced drinks.

It had caught my eye that they are famous for their Mac n Cheese and had a separate room for dining. So when on a works lunch, myself & a friend decided on Sloans. We were on an early lunch at 11.45am and had checked on the website that they open at 11.30am. When we arrive in the venue there is two employees chatting next to the dining area. We asked if we could get a seat and the girl abruptly replied that it was 11.30am they opened and we informed her it was now 11.45am. She then apologised and took us to a table and there was already another table sat down? This is really basic stuff 🤯

Confusion aside, the service was very average for the rest of the experience. The disappointment didn't stop there I'm afraid to say. We were tempted by the “Famous Mac n cheese” even though on one occasion the bar maid told me that it was nothing special 😮 (famous for being nothing special? 😂) We opted for the Steak & Ale Pie instead. When presented with our food we could just tell straight away this was 'bung in the oven' quality.

The chips were not homemade and the pie pastry was rock solid. The meat inside the pie was tough in texture and the gravy watery. This meal costs £10. I've had a better Steak Bake at Greggs. It was a mutual feeling from both of us. There was also a lot of bar flies irritating us while eating which wasn't pleasant.

To summarise, Sloans is good for a couple of drinks and that cosy Glasgow pub feel. The food and service on our experience was not up to standard at all. We had higher expectations of this place, unfortunately they weren't met.

Meeting Mama Diner for a wee spot of lunch. She chooses this Scottish Cafe on the top of Princes Square which has a rather wholesome menu. The venue has basic but comfortable seating and a nice view of the bustling Princes Square.

I opt for a Bellini which has been one of my favourite drinks since I tried the original at Harry’s Bar in Venice. I was a little disappointed as it tasted more like Prosecco with the Peach Purée at the bottom and not really mixed/blended into the drink.

For food we choose just one course each. My Mum chooses the Haggis Neaps and Tatties which was presented neatly in a stack style. She said this was really delicious and its only downfall was that she would have liked more Haggis.

Myself, I opt for the Cullen Skink. It had a basic presentation that you would expect from a cafe style and had more of a thicker/chowdery texture which is correct for this style of dish as I had one recently at Wild Cabaret which was watered down. The fish was fresh, and I really enjoyed it.

Overall, it was just a quick visit, and we were impressed with what we saw for the price. Service was friendly but rather standard. We will be back again in the future to explore the menu further.
