The Lounge, Largs
Yesterday, some of you guessed right, we went WEST side 🤘🏻 to the seaside town of Largs. Famous for its Nardinis 🍨 , this place gets very busy in the Summer ☀️ months. It was a lovely dry day and we even got the ferry ⛴ over for a few hours to the Isle of Cumbrae (Millport). We had a great walk around there and even met the lovely owners of the 75 year old Joke Shop who were a great laugh! 🤣 @mapesmillport
Beforehand we went to The Lounge on the Largs High Street. We had both been before for drinks but never for food. When you walk in it’s like a country manor with its oak furnishings and cosy fireplace, which the waiter kindly sat us right next to.
The Lunch menu is essentially a Scottish/Gastro Pub affair with some classier options. 🙋🏻‍♂️- I opted for the Cullen Skink as my Starter as I love this dish. When presented, the toast was a little burnt. The Cullen Skink is a salty soup, it’s fish afterall, for me there was too much salt added additionally. It didn’t taste overly fresh in my opinion, like it had been made a day or two before. It was average.
For the main I choose the Beef Teriyaki which was served with chips and salad. The sauce was quite nice but the beef was a little overcooked and chewy. The chips were not home made in my opinion. It wasn’t terrible although again, quite middle of the road.
🙋🏻‍♀️- I opted for the Scottish Scallops which were fresh although served on a massive plate for such a small dish.
My main I had the Satay Curry with Coconut rice which was pleasant.
Overall, we liked it here. The service was very friendly and attentive. This venue is very famous for being a bar/club and that seems to be where it’s strengths lie. They have a very popular terrace which is meant to be fabulous in the summer months. The food has room for improvement. The service and cosy layout is what will bring us back to give it another go. @loungelargs

Currently Number 1 on Trip Advisor.. Lets see what all the fuss is about shall we 🤔

It’s Friday night, it’s payday & after a very long month 🙄😂 Glasgow is jumping. Each venue we walk past is full! We are going where our feet take us & this new place caught my eye. Indian cuisine has such a great variety of food but sometimes it’s so heavy & filling so the idea of smaller plates in this tapas style really appealed to me.
Upon entering the venue, the friendly waiter offered us a seat at the waiting area as he promptly prepared us a table.

For drinks there was a good selection of wines and spirits but not cocktails? 😮 Maybe a small menu of classic cocktails would be good as my partner quite fancied one.

Starters - A complimentary Apertif was brought to the table of Indian Mushroom Soup which was a delight. Can we have a whole bowl of this please? Huge fan of Mushroom Soup & this was a great twist! 🍄 🌶
We then shared Fish Pakora which had a pleasant, light spice. It was delicate & mouth watering with an accompaniment of an Indian style cous cous salad.

Diner 1: I had a Goan Fish 🐟 Curry with Fried Rice. This was nice but there were some bits of fish bone to contend with which wasn’t a huge issue (it happens) but it's not ideal. This dish was described as Haddock cooked in a coconut 🥥 sauce with sweet onion & tamarind. I was expecting a pale, creamy & sweeter coconut taste &I was met with a more tomato/spicier sauce than expected. It was delicious but it didn’t quite match the description on the menu in my opinion. We shared a Pashwari Nan which I found to be a total treat, there was a lovely honey glaze to it.

To summarise the service was really good here, the team are passionate & on the ball. The venue is smart & polished inside, although the lighting could be more subtle. A few tweaks here & there I'd say! Will definitely be back to try other dishes 🙂 @greengatescafe_merchantcity

Loop & Scoop
What can I say, after stuffing our faces at Ka Pao, I didn’t have a lot of room left for dessert, but someone was insisting 😏🤣 Boy am I glad she did. Loop & Scoop is something to behold.
Diner 1 🙋‍♂️ I have NEVER had Churros as delicious as that before. Warm and gooey with an Oreo coating, it was to die for! My two scoops of ice cream I chose were Parma Violet & Mint chocolate. The Parma Violet was unreal, not overly sweet & so creamy. They have totally nailed this flavour! The Mint Chocolate didn’t really have much chocolate through it so it wasn’t how I normally like that ice cream but I still scoffed the lot which was a very generous amount.
Diner 2 🙋‍♀️ I had the exact same Loop & Scoop but opted for the good old Vanilla & a Malteasers ice cream. No word of a lie, THE BEST DESSERT PLACE I HAVE BEEN TO IN A LONG TIME! The churros are so light & fresh. The ice cream is just spot on 🍨😍 you get such a big portion for your dolla 🤑 A MUST TRY!
The Mystery Diners recommend that you get your lil' asses up to Loop & Scoop for a dessert that will blow your mind 🤯 @loopandscoop

Ka Pao
Newly opened in the West End, Ka - Pao, pronounced, (KA-POW) certainly packs a punch. Coverage has been insane since it’s launch 🚀 night last week for this South Asian new venture from the owners of the 'Ox and Finch'.
Situated opposite the famous Hillhead Bookclub, we make our way down stairs into the restaurant. We are shown to our table and start to skim over the varied menu. The menu is overwhelming at first as it’s not clear as to the size of the dishes or no indication as to whether you order all at once or a starter/main.

Service was lovely throughout but more of an introduction to the menu like, “because we are new let me talk you through the menu” “what dishes do you like spicy mild etc, because you love that your going to love this dish” a more personal touch would be good although everyone was lovely & was able to answer our questions.
We were hank marvin so had 5 dishes between us. The Number 1 thing on this menu to try is the Caramel Chicken which was like biting into a piece of heaven. The most tender chicken ever, no bone, light and crispy batter with a caramel syrup coating. It is worth visiting here for this dish alone - that’s how good it is! We had one each it’s that good! Corn ribs, salted coconut, soy and lime. Wow! This was tasty A.F 😍 the sauce had a smoky bbq flavour which went perfectly with the salted coconut! A unique combo! Up next was the braised beef curry, toasted coconut, cassia and tamarind. The beef was delicate & cooked beautifully. Our next favourite was the Roasted Duck Leg and Long Pepper Red Curry which had a more Thai Lemongrass taste. Succulent & a bit spicy. Our least favourite dish was the Grilled Beef Salad with Garlic Shallots. It was full of flavour but there was too much fat left on the beef for our personal taste. 😮
Ka Pao is definitely the place to be just now! The food is to die for & the flavours are spot on! Can’t wait to visit again for more Caramel Chicken (maybe x10 portions 🤣) & try other dishes @kapaogla #glasgow #westend #reviews #instadaily #instafood #mysterydiners #foodblog #foodporn #scran #musttry

Scran
Scran. The good auld Scottish word. A word which we use a lot 😂 So when we stumbled across this lil' gem, we had to try it 😍

As you walk in, on the weekends especially, you are met with a queue. The venue is really small, which is intimate, but as the popularity of Scran has risen we would say it needs to be bigger/have a second location. The staff do a grand job of managing first come first served and have a system in place for taking your name and number and sending a text once your table is ready so we even enjoyed a lovely walk in Alexandra Park. Good things come to those who wait 🤤

Diner 1 🙋‍♂️
Black Pudding is something I only like if its done correctly and Scran have totally mastered it with the Stornoway Poached Eggs, Bacon & Onion Crumb & Hollandaise. This Black Pudding was simply the best I’ve ever had, it was light, non greasy & melted in the mouth. The food is of a high standard. Superb! The eggs were also a dream and when the knife cuts in and that yolk runs down like a waterfall.. 😍 The Bacon & Onion crumb was the cherry on top which was a dream team with the other ingredients. This is a must try dish with the Sourdough toast.

Diner 2 🙋‍♀️
I opted for the Brioche french toast with Ayrshire bacon & Maple Syrup with fresh blueberries. This was heavenly 😍 The french toast was spot on! The bacon was delish & went well with the sweetness of the maple syrup & fresh berries. Highly recommend this dish!

We chose Nonnas Fries to share. These have very different flavours and ingredients. “Ground Italian Sausage Meat, Mature Cheddar and Sugo”. This was a really unique twist on Loaded Fries and loved the smokey taste coming through along with the taste of the sauce. These were tasty AF 👌💯 Overall, Scran is fabulous. The food is cooked & presented to such a high standard & the staff were lovely! It's worth the wait, but could be doing with an expansion due to high demand (which is not a bad thing 😉) Can't wait to go back again 😁 @scrangla
