Food 3/5
With Storm Dennis in full swing, we threw caution to the wind 🌬️🀣 & decided to go for a late lunch to the very much 'hyped up' Sugo pasta joint. Owned by the famous 'Paesano' restaurants, we were anticipating something great here.. Diner 1 πŸ™‹β€β™‚οΈ I chose dish number 8 - Agnolotti filled with veal, potato and cavolo nero in brown butter and thyme. The pasta was adequate, pleasant yet the presentation was rather basic. It was a little oily for my liking which can be seen in the picture, I’ve had similar dishes from Tesco’s Finest πŸ€·β€β™‚ The veal and potato inside the ravioli was rich and creamy, I just found it very middle of the road & after so much hype I was expecting to be blown away. I also had a side of Sourdough bread, wasn't the best. Out of the 3 slices of bread provided, I ate half of one & the rest were taken away at the end before I even got a chance to respond to the waitress. Not that I was overly fussed as it was bland and not adding much to my meal. You would expect garlic bread to go with pasta am I right?
Diner 2 πŸ™‹β€β™€οΈ
I opted for number 5 - Pappardelle with slow cooked beef ragu 🍝 This dish was nice, yet again simple presentation. The beef was tender and the ragu was pleasant. Mind blowing? No. I had a couple of sides too, spicy Cannelini beans with sunblush tomato. The beans were a little hard & it was lacking a real kick of flavour. Also I had burrata which is a cheese made from mozzarella & cream. It was surrounded by tomatoes & drizzled with olive oil. I enjoyed this but it should be explained on the menu as a sharing dish as it's far too much for one.

Simplicity & low cost seems to be the business model for Sugo, it's nothing groundbreaking but you are getting what you pay for. Like Paesano, the sides & desserts are limited & not very appealing.
Adding fresh garlic bread/focaccia & an option of hand cut chips would be more appealing in our opinion. Desserts are lacking big time. We simply found this place to be 'alright'. Paesano has the edge we'd say.. Maybe joining these restaurants together would be a good idea? πŸ•πŸ @sugopastaglasgow #glasgow #foodbloggers #food
