Gaelic for “Merchant” this Scottish based restaurant Mahrsanta is in the heart of the Merchant City. Once “Pancho Villas” this space across from the Merchant Square is a case of “Adios” to Mexican and “Och Aye” to some brilliant choices of Traditional Scottish comfort food. Arriving to a pretty impressive floral display this venue is extremely inviting. Inside the decor is Scottish artwork and the music is amazing. Mostly Scottish artists like Deacon Blue, Simple Minds and Texas are playing which adds to the theme.<br />

🙎🏼‍♂️ Starter for myself was a Haggis Scotch Egg which was with a mustard & rocket dressing. This was extremely well made, a great combination of flavour and one of the nicest Haggis dishes I have ever had. The main course was a Sunday Roast which we both choose. This was a lovely dish & a decent portion. For me, it’s all about the Yorkshire Pudding with this dish & I found it a little dry. The meat was good but would have preferred a little pinker. Our service was also typical of Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 warm and inviting.<br />

🙍🏻‍♀️ For my first course I had Haggis Bon Bons which were a delight. The meat was succulent and well seasoned. It was coated in a crunchy breadcrumb. Accompanied by a creamy whisky sauce. Adding to the flavour was the peppery taste of the rocket. It was a taste sensation. Feelings were mutual regarding the main course. It was everything you would expect from a Sunday Roast with all the trimmings. I would highly recommend the Honey Glazed Sausages on the side. Ordered a dessert which was a home made chocolate brownie and vanilla ice cream. As a massive lover of chocolate desserts this fell short. The texture was rather dry and more of a sponge cake than a brownie. I voiced my opinion to the waiter and it was taken off the bill which I was pleased with.<br />
To sum up we had a lovely experience here and the food was of a really good standard. Just short of perfection with the desserts and some tweaks to the Sunday Roasts.<br />

West Brewery on the Green provides a relaxing dog-friendly environment. Arriving at the restaurant the high ceiling and the spacious warehouse feel are obvious features on the inside. Outside is the beer garden space which is also ideal when it’s sunny. The menu had a German theme, offering items such as Schnitzel, Sausages, and Beer.<br />

We both indulged in two courses – a starter and a main. 💁🏻‍♀️ – Starter was Asparagus wrapped in Ham with Poached Egg and Hollandaise Sauce. I thought this dish was tasty but could have been better seasoned. For my main I had Nurnberger – small Bavarian sausages served with spring onion mash, gravy, and sauerkraut. It was comfort food but nothing spectacular – I was expecting a big German sausage but this time I was sadly disappointed with 6 skinny willie winkies. It turns out size does matter 😉<br />

🙋🏼‍♂️- Starter was Sweet Potato Bon Bons. I felt it was nice but had an average and not very interesting flavour. For my main, I asked the waitress to be “blown away” so she suggested one of the most popular dishes, German Schnitzel. In my opinion a Turkey escalope, with a sauce that was going to wow me. I was so disappointed as it consisted of what looked like frozen made chips as the side, and the sauce I had to taste a few times before I got used to it (a thick mushroom sauce). If you like Mushrooms then the sauce is nice but it wasn’t the wow dish I was looking for, very ordinary.<br />

Service was friendly from the offset and the atmosphere is great as you can see lots of families out for Sunday dinner with their dogs. The interior and exterior are both to a high standard and has to be said this is also one of the only decent beer gardens in and around the centre of Glasgow. For us though..the food is sub-par. Some if not many items clearly from frozen and not worth the price. We will, however, be back for drinks in the Summer Beer Garden. @westonthegreen

Dining in this restaurant for the first time, I was rather impressed to say the least! Treated my friend to a steak meal for his birthday. A groupon voucher was purchased for two steak meals with a glass of prosecco each. Staff were attentive and chirpy! Lovely restaurant inside, cosy feel & rather luxurious.<br />

The steak was cooked to perfection! We requested medium rare 👌The inside of the steak was tender and juicy and nice and charred on the outside! The triple cooked chips were chunky and delicious! The waiter recommended the pink peppercorn and cognac butter sauce, which did not disappoint 🤤 ordered onion rings on the side which were crispy and tasty! All washed down with a beautiful, bubbley prosseco 🥂<br />

Overall, I really enjoyed my food and also the feel of this restaurant! The groupon voucher was extremely worth while to keep the cost down, as we all know, if you like your steak, it can be expensive. Located at the heart of the Merchant City lies Bar Soba. A funky, Thai Street food establishment that serves up an interesting array of small plates and authentic dishes from the land of a thousand smiles. THAT is exactly what I am met with when I arrive for a spot of lunch – A smiling girl at the front desk says I can sit anywhere I like. Today I have the day off work and have left the house without my glasses, so I sit at the one table that’s not been wiped down (typical of me), even so, the server is quick to apologise about the table.<br />
Instantly the table is fixed and she offers me a drink – as I am by myself I just have a coke. Having previously been to the restaurant, I can vouch for the seriously amazing cocktail menu. For Starters, I order two Small Plates, Chicken Gyoza Dumplings (Fried), which are also good steamed also but I love the crunch (served with a great hoisin duck sauce and a spring onion dressing). The texture of the crunch and the sweet-salty sauce combining with the spring onion is like a firework and I couldn’t rate it enough. For my second small plate I have the Cheeseburger Spring Rolls (yes that’s right lol) – they come “Chef Recommended” on the Menu, and I always like to try new things, so I choose that. It was interesting- not terrible but it didn’t blow me away (the cheese was a bit plastic-like, and not Thai tasting). For my main, I choose Shredded Beef Noodles, Wok Fried egg noodles with Seared Steak and Asian vegetables in a sticky, spicy Szechuan Glaze. This I would say is certainly recommended and the beef was fairly tender with a nice combination of chilli, courgettes, and herbs.<br />

Overall Verdict: I think this place does the job when it comes to Thai Street Food. We put a poll in our story last week and the message was clear, you guys love this place! Popping into this Italian for the lunch menu has to be reviewed differently to the A La Carte or Pre Theatre. On first impressions this place felt exactly like walking into a restaraunt in Rome with the narrow stairway up, cosy decor and open kitchen with wood fired ovens and abundance of Italian waiters. It feels authentic and family run!<br />
I choose the 2 course option which from a price point is great value. Bruschetta is one of my all time faves so that is chosen with a nice medium toasting and great tomato/olive oil dressing. I was impressed with the flavour & it wasn’t too dry which some places I feel just toasting bread and chucking tomatoes on top I felt this was made with more thought and while not a complicated dish the bread was saturated with not being soggy and had a lovely freshness. The main course I had was Vegatarian Lasagne, for me the sauce felt more like a jar quality and the vegetables were slightly undercooked. It was a decent portion but was average tasting, although it was more suited to the price of the lunch deal. The service was good but there were a lot of waiters running up and down, back and forth for the amount of covers on a week day, and there was an overly attentive feel with different waiters asking me to order drinks and food - not great communication between staff.<br />
The value was good, the food wasn’t terrible but I wasn’t amazed, although it did feel like a cosy environment.
